João Pato AKA Duckman
Bairrada
Endlessly innovative. Consistently Delicious.
The real Pato family “tradition” is endless experimentation. When Maria João Pato, Luis Pato’s youngest daughter, returned to the family winery, she also wanted to experiment and find her own style - pushing the boundaries of low alcohol, minimal intervention wine making.
The result is “Duckman” an evocation of her namesake grandfather, João Pato, often portrayed as a giant paper mache duck on her labels. The wines are sometimes wild, but always irreverent, in style: pet nat or traditional method wines arriving un-disgorged, red wines made from white grapes, orange wines made from red grapes, etc…. The goal is not to be a “natural” version of a classic expression, but rather to be endlessly experimental, surprising, and delicious.
